AMETEK Surface Vision Offers Automated Online Surface Inspection at Aluminium 2018

Friday, August 17, 2018

AMETEK Surface Vision, world leader in automated online surface inspection solutions, will showcase its online surface inspection and monitoring systems, as part of the Quality Alliance, at Aluminium 2018, October 9-11, at Messe Düsseldorf, Germany, Stand C35, Hall 9.

Celebrating its 20th year of successful, global use, AMETEK Surface Vision’s SmartView® surface inspection system continues to deliver a high-performance, highly customizable solution that automatically detects, classifies and visualizes metal defects, for a wide range of aluminium applications including the scalper, hot mill, cold rolling mill, annealing line, coating line and slitter.

Developed in partnership with Surface Vision’s customers, SmartView® has become one of the most trusted and valued automatic surface inspection solutions for the metals industry. Improving quality, increasing productivity and delivering a certified defect-free product, it is cost-effective and easy to implement. It combines powerful software with line-scanning camera technology and industry-leading application engineering.

“Demand for aluminium continues to grow rapidly globally, with a noted increase in surface quality requirements from the automotive and aerospace industries. Aluminium producers, therefore, are looking to minimize defects and waste and to continuously produce defect-free product. This has increased the importance of quality control systems that deliver superior performance even in the most demanding aluminium processing conditions” comments Jason Zyglis, Divisional Vice President of Project and Product Management at AMETEK Surface Vision.

Delegates also will have an opportunity to learn more about AMETEK Surface Vision’s new edge cross-section monitoring system, SmartAdvisor® Edge for Metals. It enables trimmed material edges in a metal processing line to be continuously monitored to detect anomalies, such as cut-to-break ratios and burrs.

SmartAdvisor® Edge for Metals magnifies, captures and stores high-resolution images at full production speed, providing a continuous smooth video stream. This allows the operator to detect subtle changes in the cut edge and provides the ability to pause and scroll back through the images at any time.

Zyglis adds “Both SmartView® and SmartAdvisor® Edge for Metals are specifically designed for the metals industry, helping aluminium producers meet their quality and yield optimization goals. We look forward to presenting our systems at Aluminium 2018 and demonstrating how they offer reliable online surface inspection and edge monitoring, as well as provide full process visibility and an immediate return on investment”.
