AMETEK Surface Vision will exhibit its latest innovations to the world’s largest technical conference for the paper and packaging industry, PaperCon happening May 5 – 8 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, IN.

A proven partner for increasing efficiency and improving product quality for paper, packaging and tissue producers for over three decades, AMETEK Surface Vision continues to pioneer highly-precise, real-time detection and classification of all paper defects with its market-leading web inspection solutions.
SmartView’s® superior performance in detecting, analyzing and classifying web flaws and defects has made it an industry-standard tool for producing certified paper products worldwide, while web monitoring solution
SmartAdvisor® enables the review of hours of synchronized images at production speed, allowing unmatched root-cause analysis and material troubleshooting to be performed.
In combination, the benefits of these systems have enabled paper manufacturers globally to detect defects prior to value-added processes or shipping while also reducing the need for manual inspections.
Visitors to booth 934 can see the latest benefits of SmartView’s flexibility, which now has an updated interface. Operators are now able to view different processes, or the same view with a variety of queries in grading, line synchronization and system status monitoring, using intuitive drop-down menus and customizable windows to help narrow down defects with precision.
Francois Levac, AMETEK Surface Vision’s Americas Director of Sales, commented, “Our products are trusted and relied upon by almost every major paper producer in the world. Our extensive experience has equipped us with an understanding of a range of production processes, that each require a unique solution. Our expertise drives the selection of the best combination of lighting, cameras and other hardware, as well as the right monitoring, detection and classification solution.”
A patented modular system design supported by an on-going program of updates ensures that
SmartView and
SmartAdvisor remain at the forefront of inspection and monitoring technology.
Recent SmartView upgrades have also introduced:
- The Synchronized Web Viewer, which allows user to open multiple views simultaneously. This additional plot view uses in-built enhanced filters, capable of highlighting areas of inspection with a greater resolution, making it easier to identify and remove non-repeating defects from the processed image in one inspection.
- The Parts Per Million (PPM) application, which expresses the defect area as a ratio of the total product area. This real-time calculation provides easy visualization of defect density in table and graph formats, making it simpler to identify regions that need closer review.
- A new Parallel Classification function enables up to four alternate classifiers on an inspection file, enabling seasonal or test classifiers to operate alongside established classifiers. This allows potential changes to be evaluated without interrupting current production inspection.
With the addition of the Advanced Winder Advisor (AWA) precision marking system, SmartView ensures greater defect removal while increasing winder throughput. The AWA enables greater stopping accuracy and immediate resynchronization after a web break or sheet splicing, so defects are dealt with more quickly. This means production speeds are increased, as is the overall product yield.
PaperCon 2019 is expected to bring professionals and its applications together from over 25 countries. More than 2,000 visitors are expected to attend, with at least 160 companies scheduled to exhibit.
