Cold Rolled Mill

Cold rolling provides a steel sheet with the desired strength, tempering or surface finish. The brightest finishes are delivered using highly polished work rolls. The process can also be used to reduce the steel sheet to a very small thickness.

Cold rolling may be done using a single pass through a multiple-stand mill, or via several passes through a single-stand mill. Beyond a certain level of hardness, the metal may crack if it is rolled again, requiring annealing before further rolling.

The risk of cracking imposes a limit on the amount of uninterrupted cold roll passes that can be accomplished. An automated inspection solution will alert the operator to any issues at an early stage, enabling the metal to be sent for annealing. It also supports the quality of the final surface finish.
