Rail, Bar, Beams

Much of the metal produced by a steel mill is formed into long, continuous strips of various sizes and shapes. These are cut at regular intervals and cooled to become rails, bars and beams. These components may then be machined to form the finished steel product.

With the exception of bars, most of these metal pieces have not been rolled, so surfaces may be uneven. In addition, the shape of these products makes continuous inspection at speed more difficult, since they may have several surfaces or edges to monitor.

Automated surface inspection of these steel bars, rails and beams allows for continuous monitoring and assessment of the products as they are produced. This enables substandard or flawed products to be discarded, and supports a consistent quality level.
