Electrical Steel

Electric steel supports the generation, distribution and consumption of electricity and are used in a range of industrial and domestic applications. It is usually coated to increase the electrical resistance between laminations and protect against corrosion.

This steel is typically manufactured in cold-rolled strips less than 2mm thick. These are cut by a punch or die to create the finished shape, then stacked to make a lamination. Electric steel is expensive to produce, so detecting and correcting problems at an early stage makes the process more cost-effective.

Surface defects or process contamination can significantly affect the performance of electric steel. An automated inspection solution can support product quality, while also verifying surface condition prior to stacking or the application of a coating.
