Rewinder

The rewinder is key to converting the large paper rolls from the mill into products suitable for shipping to customers. This automated process unwinds the larger roll, slits it to required width, then rewinds the paper into a smaller final product roll.

A large master roll of raw product is loaded onto an unwind stand (back stand). This roll is unwound and webbed through a slitter which cuts the product into multiple strips. The rewinder then gathers the strips onto smaller cores of the desired size.

Unwinding and then rewinding the paper may create creases or other defects. In addition, the slitting operation could form tears or blemishes that are exacerbated by rewinding. An automated monitoring solution allows full-speed operation while watching out for these problems.
