Spunbond and SMS

Spunbond nonwovens are produced in a single continuous process, leading to faster conveyor belt speeds and lower costs. Spunbond fibers can be combined with meltblown fibers to create a layered product called spun-melt-spun (SMS), which is commonly used for water repellent fabrics.

The spunbond process creates a blanket of filaments melted together in a flat, open structure. This produces a lightweight, strong material that is highly resistant to tearing and deformation.

Since spunbond fabric is prized for its robust qualities, it is important that there are no defects that may impair its strength and tear resistance. An automated inspection system can monitor the fast-moving continuous production process to detect and assess any imperfections.
