Color Coating

Color coating lines are long and involve several stages, from cleaning and treating to coating and hardening. Automated inspection systems are essential to ensuring high surface quality of the final product.

Color coating refers to the application of a decorative and/or protective paint coating to a metal substrate, typically in coil form. This process is usually continuous and highly automated, and provides long-term protection against a range of corrosive conditions.

Before coating, the aluminum surface is prepared through cleaning and chemical treatment. Finish coaters then apply a precise, uniform coating of the required thickness. This coating is hardened in a flotation oven, and a further protective layer can be applied through heated rolling.

The various stages of the color coating process depend on a smooth surface, but each can introduce blemishes or defects. An automated, real-time inspection solution along the coating line can detect defects before they impact on downstream processes.
