Coating

Plastic coating can be used for insulation and to provide a smooth surface finish. Automated inspection and defect detection supports quality control and a uniform coverage.

Plastics can both be used as coatings and coated themselves to provide a desired surface property. In either case, it is important to ensure the substrate is clean and defect-free, while the coating is uniform and without blemish.

Fluorine-based and silicon-based coatings are commonly applied to plastics to protect against water, oil and environmental conditions. Plastic is also a useful coating for wires in electrical applications, as it insulates against the electrical current.

Automated surface inspection can detect any surface flaws on the substrate, whether it is made of plastic or another substance ready for plastic coating. Monitoring during or after the coating process will ensure uniform or complete coverage, which may be essential to safety in applications such as electrical wire.
